Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Who Makes Helix Mattresses

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual variant offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Who Makes Helix Mattresses

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Who Makes Helix Mattresses

Construction Who Makes Helix Mattresses

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different models (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Who Makes Helix Mattresses

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those options feel right, you may always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for all buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Who Makes Helix Mattresses

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Who Makes Helix Mattresses

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
