Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Where Are Helix Mattresses Made

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual option gives a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Where Are Helix Mattresses Made

Construction Where Are Helix Mattresses Made

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Where Are Helix Mattresses Made

Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these options feel quite right, you could always have a look at the four other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Where Are Helix Mattresses Made

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Where Are Helix Mattresses Made

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1” or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
