Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. When U Helix

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each individual model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

When U Helix

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. When U Helix

Construction When U Helix

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). When U Helix

Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those models sound right, you could always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. When U Helix

According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secure seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. When U Helix

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1” or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
