Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Vogue Helix Optimum Mattress

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual option offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Vogue Helix Optimum Mattress

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Vogue Helix Optimum Mattress

Construction Vogue Helix Optimum Mattress

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Vogue Helix Optimum Mattress

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these options sound quite right, you can always check out the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Vogue Helix Optimum Mattress

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Vogue Helix Optimum Mattress

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1” or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain to clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
