Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Unboxing Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each individual variant provides a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Unboxing Helix Mattress

Construction Unboxing Helix Mattress
All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Unboxing Helix Mattress
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these models feel quite right, you may always check out the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Unboxing Helix Mattress
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When getting a new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Unboxing Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
