Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. The Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual model gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. The Helix Mattress

Construction The Helix Mattress
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different models (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). The Helix Mattress
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some great body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models feel quite right, you can always check out the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. The Helix Mattress
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. The Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1” or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
