Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Saatva Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Saatva Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Construction Saatva Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Saatva Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these options sound right, you can always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Saatva Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you are likely to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Saatva Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1” or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
