Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Review Of Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual option provides a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Review Of Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Review Of Helix Mattress

Construction Review Of Helix Mattress

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique models (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Review Of Helix Mattress

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Most side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different types of bodies or preferences may also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these options seem right, you could always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many people, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Review Of Helix Mattress

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you are likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, the company finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Review Of Helix Mattress

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1” or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.

Final Thoughts Review Of Helix Mattress

If you’re shopping for a mattress and are not quite certain what feel that you need, Helix’s Color Match system and quiz might be the key to finding your best sleep with little hassle. Their state-of-the-art system, which is based on expert sentiment and artificial intelligence, was designed to better their customer’s sleep by giving a better match. Review Of Helix Mattress

The attributes of this mattress were thoughtfully manufactured to deliver options whether you were searching for a mattress that stays cool all night, if you wanted one to support your curves with a thick comfort system, or both! The pocketed coil unit should offer great edge support and movement transfer is minimal with their individually-wrapped construction.

I hope that I have provided you some notion of what the typical customer can expect from this mattress, but it truly does provide a sensational range of customization with a choice for literally every particular desire or need. Your next best sleep could just be a brief online quiz away.
