Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Rate Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective model gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Rate Helix Mattress

Construction Rate Helix Mattress
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Rate Helix Mattress
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these options feel right, you can always check out the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Rate Helix Mattress
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Rate Helix Mattress
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
