Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Opening Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Opening Helix Mattress

Construction Opening Helix Mattress
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Opening Helix Mattress
Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those options seem right, you could always check out the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Opening Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
