Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. New Purple Vs Helix
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. New Purple Vs Helix

Construction New Purple Vs Helix
All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). New Purple Vs Helix
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models seem quite right, you can always check out the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. New Purple Vs Helix
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and find great support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, the company locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. New Purple Vs Helix
Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
