Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. New Helix

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective model offers a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

New Helix

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. New Helix

Construction New Helix

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different models (and supposedly have a model for everyone). New Helix

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these models seem right, you can always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. New Helix

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. New Helix

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1” or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.

Final Thoughts New Helix

If you’re shopping for a mattress and are not quite sure what feel that you need, Helix’s quiz and Color Match system may be the key to unlocking your best sleep with no hassle. Their awesome system, which relies on expert opinions and artificial intelligence, was created to better their client’s sleep by giving a better match. New Helix

The attributes of the Helix were thoughtfully constructed to deliver options whether you were looking for a mattress that keeps cool all night, if you needed one to cradle your shape with a thick comfort system, or both! The pocketed coil unit should provide good edge support and motion transfer is minimal with their individually-wrapped build.

Hopefully, I’ve provided you some notion of what the average customer can expect from this bed, but it truly does provide an impressive range of customization with a choice for literally every particular need or desire. Your next best sleep may just be a short online quiz away.
