Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Mattresses Helix

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective model gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Mattresses Helix

Construction Mattresses Helix

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Mattresses Helix

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models sound quite right, you could always check out the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Mattresses Helix

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Mattresses Helix

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
