Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Mattress Underground Helix
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Mattress Underground Helix

Construction Mattress Underground Helix
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Mattress Underground Helix
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those options seem quite right, you can always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While buying a new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you are likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Mattress Underground Helix
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
