Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Lull Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual variant provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Lull Vs Helix Mattress

Construction Lull Vs Helix Mattress

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different versions (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Lull Vs Helix Mattress

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those models seem right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Lull Vs Helix Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, most people would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you’re likely to experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and find great support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Lull Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1” or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
