Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Lenovo Helix 2 Sleep Mode

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each individual model gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Lenovo Helix 2 Sleep Mode

Construction Lenovo Helix 2 Sleep Mode

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Lenovo Helix 2 Sleep Mode

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the version you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those models seem quite right, you can always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Lenovo Helix 2 Sleep Mode

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Lenovo Helix 2 Sleep Mode

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain to clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
