Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Leesa Vs Helix Bed
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual model provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Leesa Vs Helix Bed

Construction Leesa Vs Helix Bed
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Leesa Vs Helix Bed
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these options sound quite right, you can always check out the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all people, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Leesa Vs Helix Bed
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When buying a brand-new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you are going to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Leesa Vs Helix Bed
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1” or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
