Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Leesa Bed Vs Helix

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual model provides a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Leesa Bed Vs Helix

Construction Leesa Bed Vs Helix

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Leesa Bed Vs Helix

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these models feel right, you may always have a look at the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Leesa Bed Vs Helix

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a wide range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secure sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Leesa Bed Vs Helix

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
