Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Is Helix The Best Mattress
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective option provides a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Is Helix The Best Mattress

Construction Is Helix The Best Mattress
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Is Helix The Best Mattress
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models feel right, you can always check out the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Is Helix The Best Mattress
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you are likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secured seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Is Helix The Best Mattress
Helix offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
