Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Is Helix Sleep Good
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant gives a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Is Helix Sleep Good

Construction Is Helix Sleep Good
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique variants (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Is Helix Sleep Good
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models seem quite right, you may always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Is Helix Sleep Good
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, the company locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Is Helix Sleep Good
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1” or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
