Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Is Helix Mattress Worth It
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Is Helix Mattress Worth It

Construction Is Helix Mattress Worth It
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Is Helix Mattress Worth It
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those models seem quite right, you may always check out the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Is Helix Mattress Worth It
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you are likely to experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secure sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Is Helix Mattress Worth It
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1” or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
