Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Is Helix Mattress Good

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective variant provides a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Is Helix Mattress Good

Construction Is Helix Mattress Good

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Is Helix Mattress Good

Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these options feel quite right, you may always check out the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Is Helix Mattress Good

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re going to experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Is Helix Mattress Good

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
