Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Is Helix A Good Mattress
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective option gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Is Helix A Good Mattress

Construction Is Helix A Good Mattress
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct models (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Is Helix A Good Mattress
Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models seem right, you may always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Is Helix A Good Mattress
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Is Helix A Good Mattress
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1” or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
