Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. How Good Are Helix Mattresses

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

How Good Are Helix Mattresses

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. How Good Are Helix Mattresses

Construction How Good Are Helix Mattresses

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). How Good Are Helix Mattresses

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those models seem right, you may always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. How Good Are Helix Mattresses

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. How Good Are Helix Mattresses

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
