Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Writer
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Writer

Construction Helix Writer
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Writer
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options feel right, you could always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Writer
Helix offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
