Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Tuck Mattress
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective model provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Vs Tuck Mattress

Construction Helix Vs Tuck Mattress
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different models (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Vs Tuck Mattress
Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to encounter some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these options feel right, you may always have a look at the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for all sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Tuck Mattress
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, most people would like to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and find amazing support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Vs Tuck Mattress
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
