Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Tempurpedic

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are urged to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each individual model gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Vs Tempurpedic

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Vs Tempurpedic

Construction Helix Vs Tempurpedic

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Vs Tempurpedic

Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these models seem quite right, you may always have a look at the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Tempurpedic

According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Vs Tempurpedic

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
