Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Saatva Mattress

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Vs Saatva Mattress

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Vs Saatva Mattress

Construction Helix Vs Saatva Mattress

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Vs Saatva Mattress

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models sound quite right, you can always have a look at the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Saatva Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Vs Saatva Mattress

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1” or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
