Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Posturepedic

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Vs Posturepedic

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Vs Posturepedic

Construction Helix Vs Posturepedic

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Vs Posturepedic

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those options feel quite right, you can always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Posturepedic

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you are going to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you will find the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secured seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Vs Posturepedic

Helix Warranty

Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
