Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Nest

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Vs Nest

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Nest

Construction Helix Vs Nest

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Vs Nest

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those models sound quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Nest

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you will hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Vs Nest

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
