Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Layla

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are urged to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual variant provides a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Vs Layla

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Layla

Construction Helix Vs Layla

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Vs Layla

Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some great body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these options sound quite right, you can always check out the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Layla

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a brand-new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will interest a vast range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Vs Layla

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1” or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
