Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Helix

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each individual model gives a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Vs Helix

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Helix

Construction Helix Vs Helix

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Vs Helix

Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these models sound quite right, you can always have a look at the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Helix

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you are going to experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Vs Helix

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
