Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Brentwood Oceano

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Vs Brentwood Oceano

Construction Helix Vs Brentwood Oceano

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Vs Brentwood Oceano

Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those models feel quite right, you can always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Brentwood Oceano

According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secured seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Vs Brentwood Oceano

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
