Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Big Fig

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each respective variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Vs Big Fig

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Big Fig

Construction Helix Vs Big Fig

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different models (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Vs Big Fig

Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these models feel right, you can always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Big Fig

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Vs Big Fig

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
