Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Bear Mattress
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each individual model offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Bear Mattress

Construction Helix Vs Bear Mattress
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Vs Bear Mattress
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these models sound quite right, you can always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Bear Mattress
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will find the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Vs Bear Mattress
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
Final Thoughts Helix Vs Bear Mattress
If you are searching for a mattress and are not quite certain what feel that you need, Helix’s Color Match system and quiz might be the secret to unlocking your very best sleep with little hassle. The features of the Helix were thoughtfully manufactured to provide options whether you were searching for a mattress that keeps cool all night, in the event that you needed one to support your shape with a thick comfort system, or both! The coil unit should offer great edge support and motion transfer is minimal with their individually-wrapped construction.
I hope that I have given you some notion of what the average consumer can expect from this bed, but it does provide an impressive range of customization with an option for literally every specific need or desire. Your next best sleep might just be a short online quiz away.
