Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Avocado Mattress

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each respective variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Vs Avocado Mattress

Construction Helix Vs Avocado Mattress

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique models (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Vs Avocado Mattress

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.

Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those options sound right, you may always have a look at the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Avocado Mattress

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Vs Avocado Mattress

Helix Warranty

Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
