Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Allswell

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each individual variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Vs Allswell

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Allswell

Construction Helix Vs Allswell

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Vs Allswell

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those models feel quite right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Allswell

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Vs Allswell

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
