Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Versus Purple Mattress

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each respective model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Versus Purple Mattress

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Versus Purple Mattress

Construction Helix Versus Purple Mattress

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Versus Purple Mattress

Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these options sound quite right, you may always check out the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for all buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Versus Purple Mattress

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Versus Purple Mattress

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
