Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Versus Oceano
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Versus Oceano

Construction Helix Versus Oceano
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Versus Oceano
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these options sound quite right, you can always check out the 4 other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Versus Oceano
According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Versus Oceano
Helix offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
