Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Unboxing
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective model provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Unboxing

Construction Helix Unboxing
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Unboxing
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options sound right, you may always check out the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Unboxing
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you are going to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Unboxing
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
