Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Travel
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual variant gives a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Travel

Construction Helix Travel
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Travel
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some great body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences may also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these models feel right, you can always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Travel
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When buying a brand-new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you are likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Travel
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
