Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Tracking
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each individual variant provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Tracking

Construction Helix Tracking
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Tracking
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these models sound quite right, you could always have a look at the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for all people, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Tracking
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While getting a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Tracking
Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1” or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain to clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
