Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Thickness
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Thickness

Construction Helix Thickness
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Thickness
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to encounter some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Many side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options feel right, you could always have a look at the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for many sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Thickness
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While getting a brand-new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you’re likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Thickness
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1” or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
