Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Support
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual option gives a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Support

Construction Helix Support
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Support
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to encounter some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these options seem quite right, you could always check out the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Support
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Support
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
