Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sunset Mattress Review
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sunset Mattress Review

Construction Helix Sunset Mattress Review
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Sunset Mattress Review
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these options seem quite right, you may always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sunset Mattress Review
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While getting a brand-new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will hit the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secured seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sunset Mattress Review
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.

The features of the Helix were thoughtfully manufactured to provide choices whether you were looking for a mattress that keeps cool all night, if you needed one to cradle your curves with a thick comfort system, or both! The pocketed coil unit should offer great edge support and movement transfer is at a minimum with their individually-wrapped construction.
