Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Strain

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each respective option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Strain

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Strain

Construction Helix Strain

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Strain

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these models sound quite right, you could always have a look at the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Strain

According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a new mattress, most individuals wish to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Strain

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
