Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Split King

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are urged to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Split King

Construction Helix Split King

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Split King

Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some great body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Many side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those options seem quite right, you can always check out the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Split King

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Split King

Helix Warranty

Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
