Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Soft Mattress Review
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual model offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Soft Mattress Review

Construction Helix Soft Mattress Review
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different models (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Soft Mattress Review
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those options feel quite right, you can always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many people, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Soft Mattress Review
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Soft Mattress Review
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
