Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Smell
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are urged to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Smell

Construction Helix Smell
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Smell
Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those models feel right, you may always have a look at the four other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Smell
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you are likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Smell
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
