Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleeper
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleeper

Construction Helix Sleeper
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Sleeper
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some great body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these options feel quite right, you can always have a look at the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleeper
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you’re likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Sleeper
Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1” or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
